With the fall lineup of shows deep into their newest season, you may be ready to pick a new show to consume your down time. Between shows on cable, streaming services and wherever else you will find new shows, there are a lot of choices to choose from.
Let me make some recommendations for you!
If you like comedy, you will absolutely LOVE Superstore.
Superstore is a hilarious show on NBC about what goes on at a big box store like Target or Wal-Mart.
Currently in its fifth season, this comedy starring America Ferrera (Ugly Betty) and Ben Feldman (Silicon Valley) will have you falling in love with their characters (Amy and Jonah) along with the diverse and hilarious cast that they are surrounded by.
While the show brings comedy to antics you would find in a store such as: teenagers hanging out without purchasing anything, workplace relationships and back to school shopping, it also takes on serious topics that have a place in society today such as unionizing and illegal immigration.
Superstore is currently my favorite show on television right now and you can get caught up on the past 5 seasons by watching it on Hulu.
This second show is relatively new so you aren’t that far behind.
That show is The Morning Show and it is streaming on Apple TV+.
With a star studded cast featuring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell, The Morning Show takes a look at a television network where their biggest star (Carell) is fired after allegations of misconduct with female coworkers. (Crazy concept but it’s pretty good)
While the earlier critic reviews didn’t seem to enjoy the first few episodes, I very much enjoyed them. As a fan of shows that take you behind the scenes of television (30 Rock being the only example), it is fascinating to see the behind the scenes but for a serious tone and subject matter.
I’m not usually a big fan of drama shows, but the premise along with fantastic acting by the three stars I mentioned along with an incredible acting performance from Mark Duplass (The League), The Morning Show is easily my favorite show from the new Apple streaming service so far.
As of right now, the first 4 episodes are available for viewing with new episodes releasing every Friday.
The last main show that I will recommend is also a part of the Apple TV+ streaming service and that show is Dickinson.
To be fair, this show was voted on by Twitter to be the next show I binged and I’m so happy it won. Dickinson is about the female poet, Emily Dickinson, who is played by Hailee Steinfeld.
While it gives off the look of a period piece, Steinfelds acting along with the soundtrack really makes this show stand out from the other shows of its kind.
In a time where women were groomed to only be housewives, Emily knew she wanted to be a poet. The one small problem, amongst many other problems, was that there were no published female authors. While this problem doesn’t get a solution in its first season, we see Emily grow as a woman over each episode, slowly finding out that she doesn’t want to follow the course set out for her by her family, and by society.
Dickinson is an incredible show that I watched through as quickly as I could. All ten episodes are available now on Apple TV+.
There you have it. Those are the three shows I highly recommend you keep up with now that the new TV season is full steam ahead. While Dickinson can be binged over the course of a day, Superstore and The Morning Show have new episodes coming out every week that you can look forward to.
If you end up watching any of the shows I mentioned, leave a comment or tweet @goodbadeh what you thought of it, I would love to talk more about any of these shows!
